Southwest Airlines’ Employees Deliver Outstanding Completion Factor to Labor Day Weekend Travelers

Update

As the summer travel season concluded over Labor Day Weekend, the Southwest Team delivered legendary Southwest Hospitality – along with a reliable travel experience – to Customers who chose the airline for their travel plans.

Highlights from Southwest’s performance from Friday, September 2 to Monday, September 5 include:

  • Southwest operated more than 14,800 flights across our network of 121 airports in 11 countries.
  • Southwest Employees welcomed more than 1.5 million Customers.
  • Southwest’s flight completion factor was approximately 99.3% and represents our lowest Labor Day Weekend cancellation rate in 4 years.

The Southwest Team aims to provide this level of reliability throughout the year but, especially, during busy, holiday periods when Customer expectations are at their highest. The airline’s recent operational performance has been supported by the hiring milestone achieved over the summer as Southwest now has grown total, active, full-time equivalent Employee base to more than 62,000—higher than the number of Southwest Employees at the end of 2019 before the start of the pandemic.

“Our Southwest Team once again rose to the challenge during the Labor Day holiday, and we are exceptionally proud of their commitment to our Customers,” said Mike Van de Ven, President and Chief Operating Officer. “While we acknowledge we still have work ahead of us in the post-pandemic environment, Southwest Employees superbly executed our operational strategy. We thank the Customers who chose to include Southwest Airlines in their summer and holiday weekend travel plans, and we look forward to welcoming them onboard again soon.”
