Southwest Airlines Puts a 737 on Your Doorstep; Carrier Introduces Same-Day, Door-to-Door Cargo Delivery

It's the Internet age and deadlines are getting shorter with each passing day. What do you do when you need to get a package somewhere and overnight is simply overdue? Southwest Airlines (NYSE: LUV) today announced an enhancement to its Next Flight Guaranteed (NFG) product that allows Customers to ship a package with same-day delivery, from doorstep to doorstep.

Need more notebooks in Nebraska, legal documents in Louisville, or medical supplies in Midland? Southwest Airlines has an airplane loaded up and ready to go in that direction. By using NFG Premium with its door-to-door capabilities provided by NextJet, we'll pick up those urgent legal documents and make sure they get to their desired location in Louisville -- all in one day.

"Our partnership with NextJet is an important part of our commitment to provide Southwest Airlines Customers with the best, most efficient shipping solutions available today," said Mack Sikorski, Southwest's director of cargo.

Customers wanting same-day shipping with door-to-door delivery can get instant itinerary and pricing information by going directly to swacargo.com or by using the link from Southwest's popular web site, southwest.com . The sites also may be used to track packages through each stage of the journey.

"With our leadership position in immediate response logistics systems, NextJet enables Southwest to extend its widely-acclaimed cargo services to meet a broader set of Customer shipping needs," said Steve O'Brien, NextJet's co-founder and co-chief executive officer.

Anyone can get a Quick Quote by entering origin and destination zip codes and the package size (up to 150 lbs. and 90 linear inches). To complete an order, each new user must register with the Southwest NFG Premium Preferred Customer Program by filling out the contract available online. Once an order is completed online, the shipper will receive real-time e-mails to track the status of each shipment.

"To us, this isn't just a job, it's a way of life," Sikorski said. "With reliable, on-time frequent flights to destinations across the country, Southwest Airlines is one airline that was born to ship."

Southwest Airlines Cargo was awarded the 2001 Quest for Quality "Readers Choice" award for recognition of outstanding performance by Logistics Management & Distribution Report Magazine. This is the seventh year Southwest Cargo has been recognized in the Quest for Quality, an industry-wide survey program in transportation, measuring shippers' quality based on items such as timeliness of service, condition of equipment, and level of Customer Service.
