Southwest Airlines to Offer New Long Haul Service
Southwest Airlines today announced it will begin offering daily nonstop service between Austin and Los Angeles; Austin and Tampa; Kansas City and Seattle; and Kansas City and Orlando on Feb. 5, 1999.
"The delivery of new 737-700 aircraft from Boeing early next year gives us the opportunity to offer new convenient nonstop service between some of our cities which previously only had service requiring a stop," said Joyce Rogge, Southwest's vice president of marketing.
The schedule for the new flights is as follows:
Austin to: | Return flights:
Tampa | ||
#260 departs 5:00 p.m., arrives 8:15 p.m. | #261 departs 8:00 a.m., arrives 9:45 a.m.
Los Angeles | ||
#261 departs 10:10 a.m., arrives 11:15 a.m. | #260 departs 11:40 a.m., arrives 4:35 p.m. |
Kansas City to: | Return flights:
Orlando | ||
#244 departs 6:20 p.m., arrives 10:10 p.m. | #245 departs 7:10 a.m., arrives 9:10 a.m.
Seattle | ||
#245 departs 9:40 a.m., arrives 11:40 a.m. | #244 departs 12:10 p.m., arrives 5:55 p.m. |
These flights also offer Customers the opportunity to fly between Tampa and Los Angeles with one brief stop but no change of planes in Austin or between Orlando and Seattle with one brief stop but no change of planes in Kansas City.
"The competition in almost every example is charging twice as much for their unrestricted full coach fare as Southwests highest unrestricted fare. We will be studying other cities on our route map where demand is high for new nonstop service additions," said Rogge.
Fares are as follows:
7-day advance one-way/requires roundtrip purchase |
Unrestricted Full Fare One-Way |
Other Airlines Unrestricted Full Coach One-Way |
|
Austin/Los Angeles | $142* | $238 | $645 |
Austin/Tampa | $125* | $209 | $533 |
Tampa/Los Angeles | $243* | $399 | $804 |
Kansas City/Seattle | $214* | $355 | $694 |
Kansas City/Orlando | $119* | $230 | $645 |
Orlando/Seattle | $282* | $399 | $903 |
Airport taxes of up to $6 each way are not included in any fare listed. Fares also do not include a $2 federal excise tax that will be imposed on each flight segment of the itinerary. A flight segment is defined as a takeoff and landing.
*Tickets must be purchased within one day of making a reservation and at least seven days before departure. These fares require roundtrip purchase and require an overnight stay. Seats are limited and may not be available on some flights that operate during very busy travel times and holiday periods. Tickets are nonrefundable but, if unused, may be applied toward the purchase of future travel on Southwest Airlines.
