Southwest Airlines Reports August Traffic
Southwest Airlines Co. announced today that the Company flew 2,947.0 million revenue passenger miles (RPMs) in August 1998, an 8.9 percent increase over the 2,705.3 million flown in August 1997. Available seat miles (ASMs) increased 8.1 percent to 4,170.6 million from the August 1997 level of 3,858.6 million. The load factor for the month was 70.7 percent, compared to 70.1 percent for the same period of a year ago.
For the first eight months of 1998, Southwest flew 21,068.4 million RPMs, compared with the 18,806.3 million recorded for the same period in 1997, an increase of 12.0 percent. Available seat miles increased 7.1 percent to 31,254.0 million from the 1997 level of 29,177.8 million. The year-to-date load factor was 67.4 percent, up 2.9 points from the same period last year.
